Welcome to our website! As your president for 2011 - 2012, I invite
you to play bridge in our clubs, and in our unit tournaments. The unit consists
of 50 counties in Alabama, so it is pretty big. Our unit Board is composed of
members from around the state and their job is to represent you. Every town in
the unit with one or more ACBL-sanctioned bridge club is entitled to at least
one representative to our Board.
The Board meets several times a year, and it addresses things that concern our
members. We manage the business of the unit, like your club manager manages the
club's business, (with your help). We have authorized subsidies for club
facility improvement, for teaching Bridge Teachers, and our Grand National Teams
winners who represent Unit 157 at the National tournaments. We coordinate our
tournaments within the unit, state, and district to make sure you have the most
chances to play bridge in an enjoyable way.
Let me ask you to consider helping make the unit a better one. It is pretty
good right now! We have over 900 members. If your club has not elected a
representative to the Unit Board please consider doing so. If you are interested
in getting more involved with bridge, let me know. We have several committees
that you could help with. A little effort by a lot of volunteers can go a long
way to serve our members, and each volunteer does not have to commit a lot of
Finally, thank you for your interest. If you have questions, comments, or
suggestions please let me know by e-mail. I will respond promptly. Bridge in
Unit 157 is good. Let's make it even better!
