The meeting was called to order by Vice-President O.T. Johnson.  The minutes were read by Linda Randall and approved.  The Treasurer’s report was presented by Don Kemp in the absence of Aaron Maryanow.

Old business was called for.  It was announced that Judith Bailey will replace Clay Hall as GNT coordinator, as Clay has moved to Australia.  Discussion followed about funding for Unit 157 participants in the National GNT competition.  Lee Stimson moved that during the week of January 20-26, 2008, each Unit 157 game would charge an extra $1.00 per person, the proceeds to be used to help defray expenses of Unit 157 participants in the National competition.  The motion was seconded by Mary Jo Howard and passed by the board.  Judith Bailey said that her team had not received its stipend for the 2005 competition.  O.T. said he would direct the treasurer to pay the team (Bruce and Chris Oliver, Judith Bailey, and Dennis Luft) retroactively.

Under new business, Sandy Smith asked permission for a delay in the starting time for the Unit Championship game on 10/22/2007 for the Tuscaloosa Club.  Permission was granted by the board.  Jerri Taylor said Unit Awards of Excellence will be presented at the general meeting on Sunday. October 14.  Only three people were nominated, and they will all receive the awards.
Mary Jo Howard asked for financial help for the Montgomery DBC in purchasing new chairs.  After some discussion she moved that Unit 157 pay one-half of a purchase price of up to $3000.00 for 24 chairs (a total cost to the Unit of no more that $1500.00).  The motion was seconded and approved.
Bill Parrish will fill out the term for Alan Freeland as a Birmingham at-large representative.
Clair Chisler gave the District 10 report.
The next Unit 157 Board meeting will be Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Birmingham between the afternoon and evening sessions.  There was no further business, and the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Lee Stimson, acting Secretary
